U.S. State Department CORRECTS Campaigner-in-chief: Egypt IS an American ally.

The State Department would beg to differ with the failure and campaigner-in-chief in the White House.

"...Egypt was designated as 'Major Non-NATO Ally' in 1989 when the U.S. Congress first passed a law creating that status. The status gives Egypt special privileges in cooperating with the United States, especially in the security and technology arenas....
....Throughout Thursday, the White House tried to pooh pooh the notion that Obama had made a diplomatic gaffe, changing the status of Egypt's relationship with the U.S. in the wake of the violence against the American embassy in Cairo and the apparent reluctance of the Muslim Brotherhood-led government to stop or condemn it.
'Ally is a legal term of art,' said Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman. 'We don't have a mutual defense treaty with Egypt like we do with our NATO allies. But as the president has said, Egypt is long-standing and close partner of the United States, and we have built on that foundation by supporting Egypt's transition to democracy and working with the new government....."
"...'Ally is a legal term of art..."
Symantics and excuses.  I am surprised that Mitt Romney is not being blamed for Barack Obama's so-called gaffe.
