The Park Service appears to be closing streets on mere whim and caprice. The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.
‘It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,’ an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. ‘We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting….Continue reading
@glennbeck What politician would ever inflict pain on 90 yr old WWII vets? The same one who has death panels in his health care plan

While the mainstream media espouses Obama propaganda and accuses Republicans of using the greatest generation as props at the World War II Memorial, no one cares enough to mention that the memorial is almost entirely privately funded ($197 million in cash and pledges from American citizens, corporations, foundations, veterans groups, corporations, students, states, civic, fraternal and professional organizations, etc.). Yet, the Obama administration using the bully pulpit has seen fit to close the people’s memorial, paid for bought and financed by the people.
The same goes for Mount Vernon which by the grace of God not government remains open. They’re parking lots are open and available but the National Parks Service has erected barricades around the parking areas near the site. See screenshot below:
Taxpayer dollars are going to waste on efforts being set forth to intentionally keep “taxpayers” out of “SELECTED” closures for MAXIMUM EFFECT.
What remains unreported by the media is that for every memorial or monument closed, as reported by USFinancePost, the National Parks Service is allowing lesser known venues to remain open.
…Parks around the DC area that have little to no visitors are being kept open, while other well-known attractions such as the Statue of Liberty are closed. This is occurring despite the fact that the Statue of Liberty charges a fee for those wanting to visit and that by targeting the closures, they are actually deliberately shutting down the exhibits that would bring in the most revenue during the shutdown all for the purpose of causing inconvenience and pain to tourists….Read full article
The Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation is also reporting closings due to a government shutdown; however, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has reported and as confirmed by the Alaska, the federal Kenai River boat landings are open.
‘…The landings are open,’ an official of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's regional law enforcement office said.
‘As far as the state's concerned,’ added Claire LeClair, chief of field operations for the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. ‘It's business as usual….’
… Outside, some refuges and more than a few national parks have been closed to the public -- or at least public access points have been closed -- because of the shutdown. But problems -- potentially deadly problems -- could arise on the Kenai if federal officials pursued that course in the 49th state. That's because the state owns the popular boat launch on the river in Cooper Landing, which means someone could get onto state waters even if the feds closed all their facilities downstream….READ FULL ARTICLE
For those who reside in the state of Alaska and/or is planning a visit to federal or state owned venues in that state, you might want to read the full article excerpted above.
Confused yet? I have no doubt that the illusion as set forth by the Progressive elites is intentional. Once again, nothing is as it appears.
