The USS New York constructed at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems’ shipyard in Avondale, LA, built with 7 1/2 tons of steel from the World Trade Center and commissioned on November 7, 2009 arrived in New York City this past Saturday in honor of Veterans week. 

The USS NEW YORK (LPD-21), the fifth amphibious transport dock of the San Antonio class
will be used to transport and land Marines, their equipment and supplies, by embarked air cushion or conventional landing craft and Expeditionary Fighting Vehicles amphibious assault vehicles, augmented by helicopters or vertical take off and landing aircraft. USS NEW YORK will support amphibious assault, special operations, or expeditionary warfare missions throughout the first half of the 21st Century....
